Ellen Moore | Trainee

Ellen holds a BSc in Biomedical Health and Life Sciences from University College Dublin, which affords her a broad foundation in health sciences with particular focus on genetics, pharmacology and neuroscience. During this time, Ellen completed an internship at Lund University, Sweden, where she worked with a mouse model of an acute inflammatory lung condition (transfusion related acute lung injury; TRALI). Specifically, she investigated novel pro-inflammatory contributions of mitochondria to the pathophysiology of the disorder, and worked towards characterising such contributions.

At present, Ellen is pursuing an MSc in Biomedical Sciences at Radboud university where she is specialising in medical neuroscience. She is currently undertaking her first MSc internship in the lab of R. Cools under the guidance of Helena Olraun, where she is focusing on characterising the mechanisms of working memory input and output gating at 3T resolution. To this end, she will work primarily with a freshly completed fMRI data set and will gain experience in the processing and analysis of such data.

Beyond this, Ellen volunteers as a research assistant with the Benzo Research Project, a small independent charity based in the UK which aims to promote evidence-based, non-stigmatising drug education and supports, with an ethos grounded in harm-reduction. Critically, this project is the work of young people for young people, and endeavours to elevate the voices of young people in the areas of drug policy, drug education and related support services.
